MSUNDUZI MUSEUM CELEBRATES HERITAGE DAY!

On Fri 6th Sept, the Msunduzi Museum celebrated South SAfrica’s Heritage Day in style! To the theme of “South Africa Shines” this event, which was a kaleidoscope of colours and cultures, drew a capacity crowd of the races and religions that make up this beloved country.

There were young girl poetess’s from Shri-Vishnu primary who rapped their exuberant pride for SA;  little learners (from Hathorne, Allandale and Northdale primaries)  expressed their SA sentiments confidently from the stage; singers sang (the Alex High Choir) and dancers danced (The Alex High Gumbooters, Gert Maritz, Woodlands,  S’Nathing & TPA primaries & the beautiful  Claudelle Chetty) and over the period of some 2 and a half hours there was an endless energy stream  from the stage of  indian dance, a coloured carnival cameo , young zulu warriors and their maidens, and a stunning  fusion mix of all the cultures in one.

Visiting exchange/ ambassador teachers from Canada shared their impressions of the beauty of SA and its people whilst Fabric Gallery, with their up and coming young designer Siya,  highlighted the event with a wonderful cross-cultural show of  fashion, fabric and flair.

Sandy Naicker, owner manager of NWJewellers, resplendent in her jewel-encrusted sari, spoke eloquently about diamonds, and the audience then finally all joined in – first to the sounds of the iconic Flag Waving song from the World Cup 2010, as flags were waved across the 350-strong audience and finally, the singers of the Alex High Choir under Mr Mtshali  led the event out to the sounds of our magnificent “Nkosi Sikelele” national anthem.

What a morning of unity through diversity! And what a memorable event of colour, creed and culture, under the management of Ms Reena Bhoodram, Education Office from the Museum and the museum team team,  together with well-known MC Ingrid Roberts. Heritage Day SHONE on Fri 6th Sept this year  as a reminder of our rainbow nation and the miracle we represent  in the world today.
