Insights and Inspirations presents
Women's Day Celebration.
Ingrid Roberts’ Insights and Inspirations event which takes place at
Liberty Midlands mall on Saturday 7 August, turns the spotlight on
local and ex local women who have overcome enormous odds, or achieved
great things in their lives. They are often the ‘unsung sheroes’ in
their communities, people who have gone out of their way to make a
difference to the lives of others, or in the case of Kavisha
Seevnarain, the struggle for life itself is an inspiration. Kavisha
was recently the victim of a hijacking in Durban which resulted in her
being thrown out of her car and over a 60 metre high bridge.
This young lady will share her story of survival and hope with the
audience at the Women’s Day event. She will be joined on stage by
celebrity guest star Ipeleng Mkhari, top South African business woman
& Destiny cover girl, who juggles a successful career with being a
mother of three, and who is also a St John’s old girl returning to
Pietermaritzburg for the event! Another "Shero" and Shoprite Woman of
the Year nominee, is Glen Flanagan - a low profile retired french
lecturer who has long been a catalyst for education and capacity
building in the poverty-stricken deep rural area of Nquthu, Northern
KZN - her initiatives have included sewing groups, beadmaking projects
& community garden constructions. In addition - she has taught
there & helped create jobs by establishing a library and
refurbishing schools in that region. More recently the people of
Nquthu, with Geln's leadership, now plan to open their own factory as
well as a B&B guesthouse.
The "Insights" evening, which includes a three course dinner, also
raises funds for a charity and the beneficiary of this event is PADCA
who take care of the elderly in Pietermaritzburg and surrounds.
