Over R102 000 Raised For PMB Children's Home in May!
Ingrid Roberts's latest sell out "Insights and Inspirations" event, held at Liberty Midlands Mall on Saturday eve, raised over R102 000 for the designated charity, the Pietermaritzburg Children’s Home in Woodlands.
The evening, hosted by MC and chat show host Ingrid Roberts, again featured celebrity guests and local sheroes – this time including the first lady of KwaZulu Natal, Dr May Mkhize, former Miss World Penny Rey as well as local "sheroes" Nomfundo Molefe, Presheila Ismail and Pam Boake, the latter as foster mother extraordinaire!
Over 320 guests attended the event, and the fundraiser was led by Edgars at the Liberty mall who offered to match funding raised on the evening up to an amount of R25 000, through their CSI. Their staff kicked the event off by raising over R2 000 from gift wrapping for Mother’s day and are continuing their drive this week by encouraging members of the public to donate clothing, non perishable food items and toys to the home – these items can be dropped off at Edgars. Barlow World staff added to this figure with a generous R10 000 donation – this was added to by Raven panelbeaters, who along with their clients contributed a further R7500 – inspiring yet another wonderful donation of R30 000 from Willowton Oil and Cake Mills – and another R2000 donation from Hamblins catering plus cash from members of the audience taking the total raised to more than R85 000!
The PCH is home to 78 young children, boys and girls, who have been removed from their homes by the court, largely as a result of abuse, and in some instances human trafficking.
Roberts, who was motivated to create this event a few years ago, believing passionately in the joy of giving within one's own community, selected the PCH as the charity to benefit from the fundraiser and was delighted with the outcome, paying tribute to the many donors.
The event celebrated Mothers and the guests shared their stories as mothers, as well as stories about their own mothers.
